Melissa Miles, Owner    Melissa Miles Wellness   Melissa credits her Pilates practice to keeping her strength (and sanity!) during her own breast cancer journey in 2014. The Pilates repertoire strengthened her body and the Pilates community supported her spirit. She is grateful to Mount Sinai's Dubin Breast Center for guiding her to a successful result. Teaching since 2009, Melissa completed her comprehensive training at Power Pilates under the tutelage of Bob Liekens and Susan Moran. She teaches Pilates in NYC at Real Pilates, Google, and Melissa Miles Wellness, which also provides personal and corporate Health Coaching services.

Alycea Ungaro, Owner    Alycea Ungaro's Real Pilates   A published authority on fitness and wellness and a pioneer of the Pilates method, Alycea Ungaro brought some of the very first mat Pilates classes   to NYC. Both the method and Alycea built a devoted following as people flocked to her classes. A published authority on fitness and wellness and a pioneer of the Pilates method, Alycea Ungaro brought some of the very first mat Pilates classes to NYC. Both the method and Alycea built a devoted following as people flocked to her classes.

Rachael Lieck Bryce, Owner    Pilates Methodology   The owner of Dallas’ premier classical Pilates studio, Rachael has been teaching Pilates for almost 20 years. She is dedicated to the classical Pilates Method and trains students of all ages and levels of fitness, including prospective instructors as a Lead Teacher Trainer for Real Pilates. Rachael teaches from a place of authenticity, with the goal of enriching people’s lives through movement. A fixture of the Pilates scene in Dallas, she has brought Pilates to Dallas Public Schools, the Farmers’ Market and many other venues.

Karen Winselmann, Owner    Pure Pilates   Karen completed her Pilates Studio of New York Teacher Certification Program in 2003, and Romana’s Pilates® Instructor Training Program as a Certified Teacher Trainer in 2010. She opened Pure Pilates in 2006 and is a Lead Teacher Trainer for Real Pilates. Karen has a BFA in Dance from Florida State University, where she taught ballet & agility training to the Florida A&M University football team. She also has an MBA degree from Nova Southeastern University, with a specialization in International Business. She teaches Pilates to trained professional athletes (NFL, MLB, NBA) as well as Pre-professional and professional dancers. She has also trained the British Olympic Swim Team for two years in a row.

Karen Winselmann, Owner

Karen completed her Pilates Studio of New York Teacher Certification Program in 2003, and Romana’s Pilates® Instructor Training Program as a Certified Teacher Trainer in 2010. She opened Pure Pilates in 2006 and is a Lead Teacher Trainer for Real Pilates. Karen has a BFA in Dance from Florida State University, where she taught ballet & agility training to the Florida A&M University football team. She also has an MBA degree from Nova Southeastern University, with a specialization in International Business. Sandi is a classical Pilates teacher with 15 years of experience, a Pilates blogger (thepilatesproject.net), a teacher of teachers, and a mother of 9 year old twins. Sandi holds comprehensive teacher certifications from Power Pilates and Real Pilates, and her studio is a Real Pilates Teacher Training host center. Sandi has studied under some of the most respected Pilates teachers in the world including Bob Leikens, Alycea Ungaro, MeJo Wiggins, Shari Berkowitz, and Juan Estrada. She is so honored to be able to help so many through Pilates and contribute to Teasers for Tatas.

Daniel Alvarado, Instructor   Hailing from Chicago, Daniel has been active in sports since youth. His uncle, instructor Juan Estrada, introduced him to Pilates which gave him a deeper understanding of the connection between the body and controlled movement. He has since become a fully certified classical instructor and teaches at Real Pilates NYC/UES Studio, Westside Pilates, and the Pilates Room NYC.

Ann Donohue Bicknell, Lead Trainer   Ann’s Pilates journey began at the Boston Conservatory, where she received her BFA in Dance Performance. Gabriela Cardenas, Instructor   A native Texan, Gabriela moved to NYC in 2000 to pursue her studies in dance and somatics. Juan Estrada, Master Instructor   A former professional dancer, Juan was introduced to Pilates while earning a BA of Dance in Choreography and Performance at Columbia College Chicago. Natalia Narz, Instructor   Natalia grew up performing and trained extensively in ballet from a very young age, studying and performing with the Alabama Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and Orchesis performing group. She then branched out into musical theatre and beyond, attending the Circle in the Square 2 year professional musical theatre program and ultimately performing in musical theatre, opera, classical theatre, commercials and voice overs all over the US. Oh, and she studied nonhuman primates at Columbia University, and has done field research in Costa Rica observing spider monkeys. She teaches at Real Pilates.

She decided to train to teach Pilates after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year. That experience made her realize she wanted to do more of what she loves every day, and Pilates is just that. She credits it with helping her both mentally and physically and has become part of her self-care plan. She teaches at The Pilates Project in NJ.

Yumi Sedgwick, Instructor   Yumi tried Pilates mat class nearly 15 years ago but it didn’t resonate until much later, as an alignment based Foundation and Restorative yoga teacher, she embraced classical Pilates to enhance her teaching and fitness regime. She can still recall the day she took her first ‘real’ Pilates session that energized her and sharpened her mind. That day, Yumi experienced her first ‘Pilates high’ and she was smitten. She brings to her teaching the influence of her yoga practice and study. With an eye for detail, students are offered clear instruction for a refined practice. She teaches at Real Pilates.

In 2015, Samone began her private studio and named it Hands On Pilates NYC. In 2018, she completed the Bridge program with Alycea Ungaro at Real Pilates in New York City.

Samone started practicing Pilates in 2001 after undergoing physical therapy for chronic back pain. It was the natural progression of her physical maintenance and now provides a pain-free existence. Pilates has helped Samone through many struggles in life, both physical and emotional. After working backstage in Off-Broadway theatre for 16 years, she changed gears and enrolled in the comprehensive program at Core Pilates, NYC completing her certification in 2012. In 2015, Samone began her private studio and named it Hands On Pilates NYC. In 2018, she completed the Bridge program with Alycea Ungaro at Real Pilates in New York City.

Vanessa West, Lead Trainer   Vanessa has been practicing Pilates for nearly 20 years.
